Simon Lightfoot on the future of the ACP-EU relationship

In this video, Simon Lightfoot, Professor at the University of Leeds, discusses the future of the relationship between the EU and the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) states.

The political issue of the relationship between the EU and the ACP countries and the issue of money are obviously connected. The EU at the moment is very keen to get some kind of deal struck, but I think the ACP states are quite sensibly waiting to see what comes out of the budget. Within the EU at the moment, there are different groupings. Some countries, particularly France, are very much in favour of the ACP relationship. Other countries, such as Sweden and the Netherlands, have less interest in that and are more willing to explore a proper Africa to Europe – the continent to continent – approach.
