Erik O. Eriksen

Erik O. Eriksen is Professor of Political Science and Director of ARENA Centre for European Studies. A core concern in his research is to theorize conditions for democracy in the context of complexity, pluralism and globalization. Bringing political theory to bear on a wide range of questions, his work has had a ground-breaking impact on research agendas in several fields.

His fields of expertise include political theory, critical theory, deliberative theory, public policy, European integration and the pre­con­ditions for post-national democracy. Eriksen has published more than 70 articles and authored 25 books, including The Normativity of the European Union (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014), which is translated to German and Norwegian, and The Unfinished Democratization of Europe (Oxford University Press, 2009). He is co-editor of the Routledge book series on Democratising Europe and member of the editorial boards of Distinktionen, Ethics and Global Politics, Norsk Statsvitenskapelig Tidsskrift and The Open Political Science Journal.
