Mai'a K. Davis Cross
Mai’a K. Davis Cross is Senior Researcher at ARENA Centre for European Studies and Associate Professor of Political Science at Northeastern University, US. She is currently Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Senior Visiting Fellow at the Clingendael Institute and affiliate at Harvard’s Center for European Studies. She holds a PhD in Politics from Princeton University.
Cross’ main areas of academic interest are European foreign and security policy (CFSP/CSDP), diplomacy, public diplomacy, and soft/smart power. Her two most recent books are The Politics of Crisis in Europe (Cambridge University Press, forthcoming) and Security Integration in Europe: How Knowledge-based Networks are Transforming the European Union (University of Michigan Press, 2011), which was the 2012 winner of the Best Book Prize from the University Association of Contemporary European Studies. She is also co-editor of a 2017 special issue of Journal of Common Market Studies ‘Europe’s Hybrid Foreign Policy: The Ukraine-Russia Crisis’.
She is co-chair of the EU as a Global Actor interest section of the EU Studies Association and serves on the editorial board of Place Branding and Public Diplomacy, The Hague Journal of Diplomacy, and Palgrave Macmillan’s Series in Global Public Diplomacy.
